Grupo Aeroméxico prepares to make a series of acquisitions to modernize its short-haul fleet.
The only traditional airline in Mexico will choose this year between the E195-E2 models of Embraer and A220 of Airbus, said its general director, Andrés Conesa. The order could be 60 planes to upgrade the regional fleet of Embraer planes, he added.
Aeroméxico analyzes the possible order since 2017 and seeks to acquire larger short-distance airplanes in an initiative aimed at increasing capacity at the congested Mexico City airport without increasing flights. The E195-E2 would increase seating capacity by about 25% over the current airline fleet, while the A220 would allow 35% more, Conesa explained.
