Canada's Bombardier (BBDb.TO) will hit its 2019 delivery targets for its Global 7500 business jet, as the company redirects manpower from other planes to its flagship corporate aircraft program, an executive said on Wednesday.
The plane and train maker has previously said it expects to deliver 15 to 20 Global 7500s in 2019 but will need to make the lion's share of those deliveries during the last three months of the year, leaving little room for error in execution.
Investors and analysts are closely watching deliveries of the Global 7500 business jet, which lists for $73 million and is a key revenue driver for Bombardier....

Boeing Commercial Airplanes chief engineer John Hamilton, who was appointed in March to lead its response to the deadly 737 MAX crashes and testified before Congress alongside CEO Dennis Muilenburg, is retiring, the company informed employees Wednesday.
The news was conveyed in an internal memo from the new head of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stan Deal, and Boeing's chief engineer, Greg Hyslop.
"John had planned to retire last year, but we asked him to stay on to help us with the 737 MAX investigations and return to service efforts," they wrote. "We are immensely grateful to John for lending his expertise and leadership during a very challenging time."
Hamilton took center stage alongside Muilenburg at two contentious Congressional hearings last month. In the second of those,...

When we bought our current airplane, just over 10 years ago, I had a decision to make that I had never faced previously: Do we want access to the internet?
Back then, the system of choice was expensive and slow, but since it would be useful for email and limited downloads, it was still worth considering.
Interestingly, the passengers email and limited downloads, it was still worth considering. Interestingly, the passengers were strongly opposed. They regarded the airplane as their refuge from the world and a chance to unplug for several hours.
While it would have been nice ...

Think of something you desperately want to have but are unable to get it as the product keeps being unavailable.
What to do? United Airlines has found itself in this position in the last three years as it considered options to renew its fleet.
Instead of waiting for Boeing's yet to be launched New Mid-market Aircraft it has now 'set a course for the future' by buying 50 Airbus A321XLRs, it announced on December 3.
The news is a major blow to the business case of the Boeing NMA as United was seen as a serious potential customer for the type to replace its aging Boeing 757-200 fleet.
When announcing a deal for the MAX 10 at the 2017 Paris Air Show, United's David Letterman confirmed he was 'all ears' as to what Boeing was planning to do with the NMA...

December 4, 2019 - by Scott Hamilton for leehamnews.com
United Airlines today announced an order for 50 Airbus A321XLRs.
The airplane has an advertised range of 4,700nm (5,400 statute miles), or a nine hour flight.
UAL will replace its aging Boeing 757s on a one-for-one basis beginning in 2024.
The XLR's targeted entry into service is 2023.
Defers A350, again
Simultaneously, United deferred its order for the Airbus A350 XWB to 2027. UA repeatedly deferred delivery of the wide-body aircraft, which was ordered in 2009. First delivery was originally scheduled for 2013. There are 14 years from the original delivery date to the new one.
Officials at United are prone to favor Boeing, especially for wide-bodies, over Airbus.
The A350-900 has slightly less capacity but more range than the Boeing 787-10. United is a 787-10 customer.
The A350-1000 has about the same capacity more slightly more range than the Boeing...

The two Boeing VC-25As that are often referred to generally as 'Air Force One'—which is really the callsign of any Air Force aircraft when the President is onboard—are incredibly capable and highly customized flying machines.
From featuring one of the most elaborate flying communications systems in the world to being covered with directed-energy turrets th#at blind incoming heat-seeking missiles, these aircraft have taken the 747-200 design they are based on to the absolute max.
And still, after decades of reporting, multiple books written and documentaries filmed, these flying symbols of America's might can still surprise.
Case in point, last night I was watching the National Geographic documentary Inside Air Force One, when something briefly shown in the aircraft's cockpit grabbed my attention...

My name is Normand Hamel. After a 35 year career in aviation I retired in 2009 to better concentrate on my favourite activities: reading and writing. If you wonder what Run-up Pad means it refers to this special section of a run-up area on an airport that can be heated up in cold temperatures to prevent an aircraft from slipping forward when power is applied to test the engines. It also refers symbolically to the yellow pad I am using to write these articles for which I intend to bring our readers to contribution to test my ideas, like one would test an engine to make sure it works properly.
