Smoke billowed over the check-in desk and departure monitors, enveloping the massive red metal flying carpet art installation suspended above the Terminal 1 entrance hall at Berlin's nearly-complete new airport.
In the otherwise empty hall, about 10 workers looked on as one controlled the smoke machine producing the plumes.
