Info is circulating that the new PurePower Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) engines for Bombardier CSeries are now developing a generous 25000 pound of thrust, much more than expected.
The feat was made possible by a simple software update.
This is almost 7.3% additional "PurePower®" than forecasted and advertised.
The additional thrust power would not be changing the design fuel efficiency and would be a "nice to have" during the Takeoff and Climb runs.
It would be part of the "Optional" engines selection when purchasing the CSeries. Three (3) engines were offered when ordering the CS100 and CS300 from Bombardier (see chart below).
The PW1525G will be the name of the 25000 lbs of thrust version. It would be added to the current offering making the choices from 3 to 4 different engine configurations as follow: 19000 lbs, 21000 lbs, 23300 lbs and now 25000 lbs of thrust!
FTV4 is presently being "software updated" for this new power, if not already completed by now. Would it be the only FTV so far with this software update? FTV4 might be doing its First Flight this Friday, May 16, 2014, if the scheduled high speed taxi runs are as expected during this week. Stay tuned for Transport Canada flying permit. More to come…
