It has been a while since my last CSeries Production update on July 9 and 11 where 5 aircraft were "scheduled" for delivery.
Five were on the list… and 2 were delivered, one airBaltic MSN 55008 and one SWISS MSN 55011.
airBaltic CS300 MSN 55009 was "test flight complete" in mid-July but the client left with it only on August 10. Why? Not sure… I'm hearing more and more that airBaltic is "leasing/borrowing" pilots from Bombardier… A Training problem is it? SWISS/Lufthansa is not interested in having airBaltic pilots training on their brand new CAE CSeries simulator I'm also told.
Two more SWISS CS300 were supposed to be delivered in July, MSN 55012 and 55013.
Today is August 23 and SWISS arrived last week-end to perform their Client Acceptance flight that will happen later today (ah it is about to takeoff now or is in flight already, check for it to make ILS approaches at Montreal-Trudeau airport YUL also as part of this flight. See Flightradar24 and search for BBA532).
As for 55013 it should be delivered to the test pilots on Thursday and First Flight on Friday. Still far from a July delivery and for sure will not be delivered in August either.
Why? Much more work was required to complete the interior, also more rework than expected on those aircraft.

Still, there're some hidden costs to this… Rework done at Mirabel! I've heard that when parts arrive from China the CSeries people never know what level of rework will be necessary to bring it to specs. Probably still cheaper than to make them outside China, but if Bombardier is still having their delivery schedule assuming those parts do arrive in perfect condition they are just fooling themselves, what about their shareholders?
Status (all CS300, no CS100)
- 55012 Client acceptance flight today with SWISS
- 55013 Pre-delivery pilots on Thursday, expect first flight on Friday August 25.
- 55014 First flight approx. September 1.
- 55015 First flight approx. September.
- 55016 Still at Avianor, not progressing as fast and as well as expected by Bombardier.
- 55017 No Vertical stab (Leonardo, Italy), China part…
- 55018 First Korean Airline CSeries (no China part), cabin almost completed by early next week. No must point giving a target for first flight at this time as you now understand….
Delivery sequence is 55012, 55013, 55014, 55018… (no 55017 for a while, read above).
From what I understand, management at Bombardier is trying to do the best they can with the current resources/money but is still not ready to make changes (spend money) to accommodate a higher production rate.
