My CSeries Update: Deliveries, Boeing, Delta, airBaltic, Korean Airlines

Very interesting… Here it is by serial number trying to keep the confusion to a minimum.
55013 – SWISS CS300.
Yesterday was the performance pre-delivery flight. All is good. Expect client acceptance flight by Monday and its delivery/ferry next week. This one is late for its delivery; some interior work had to be corrected.
55015 – SWISS CS300.
55015 client acceptance flight should be around October 30.
55016 – airBaltic CS300.
This is the first CSeries Bombardier did use a 3rd party, i.e. Avianor, to complete its interior. The aircraft was towed to Avianor hangars at Mirabel airport on June 21 as I wrote here
This is not going to be the only CSeries that Bombardier employees will not be completing themselves. For Avianor the learning curve was not that easy. It should be back to Bombardier for painting. The quality of the work was "better than Bombardier", is what I'm hearing. So far so good for Avianor! Next one for them is 55017 and 55026.
55017 – First VVIP CSeries, a CS300.
Remember when I reported that Bombardier was about to deliver 2 business jet version of its CSeries, a first for this aircraft model? Read First CSeries Business Jet Sold?
There's been a change since, the first CSeries Business Jet will now be made with MSN 55017 and not MSN 55026. Korean Airline is trading this delivery slot (55017) but keeping 55026. In exchange of what? I do not know. But this is a very interesting milestone for the CSeries.
This "green" aircraft (i.e. no paint) and no interior either is/will be stored at Avianor for the moment.
I also reported that two CSeries were to be delivered as a luxury business jet, 55017 being the first, I have nothing more about the second one else than what I reported before.
Camber Aviation Management will be taking care of managing its completion. Who is the client? I do not know. Obviously this aircraft has been bought in one of the already announced orders, might be via one of the leasing companies. (List of all CSeries orders).
Camber was born with the fusion of Kestrel Aviation Management and Status Aviation Services in 2016. They did deliver the first Boeing 787 BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) with a VVIP cabin. Visit Camber web site
To be noted, no fuel tank modification (adding more fuel) was necessary to sell the first CSeries VVIP. We can expect down the road a version with more fuel load in another CSeries business jet version. This is normal for such application, using some of the belly luggage space to provide more fuel and range. It was not required for this VVIP. Interesting!
55018 – Korean Air (KAL) First CSeries, a CS300.
While I'm writing these lines it is currently in flight completing it pre-delivery test flights. Expect it to be flying again later today, this afternoon, it might be related to the new IFE (In-Flight Entertainement system) KAL has on their CSeries. KAL "Client Acceptance Flight", still from Bombardier Mirabel CSeries assembly facilities at Mirabel, Quebec, Canada airport YMX/CYMX, is scheduled for the week of October 23.
Expect media events involving Korean Airlines for this first delivery of their Bombardier CSeries aircraft, something that Bombardier and also Korean Airlines is very proud of. KAL will be the 3rd operator to take delivery of a CSeries and to add it to its regular operations. KAL was founded in 1946 and currently has a fleet of 177 aircraft and growing.
55019 – Korean Air 2nd CS300.
This one is also progressing well. We should see it in the air doing its first flight by the end of next week or early the week after.
55020 – SWISS CS300
Out of the paint shop. Its first flight is scheduled - two weeks or so.
My comments about this.
It's obvious to me that having to serve more customers by adding KAL to SWISS and airBaltic, each with different options, packages, interior, entertainment systems etc., by itself, will certainly not help in making the production & delivery process easier and quicker.
Korean Airlines first CSeries delivery is a milestone. With KAL putting CSeries into operation in Asia should corroborate the excellent passenger experience as publish in many media when flying on a CSeries with SWISS and airBaltic. Will the Korean appreciate it as much? I do think so! Will it help sales? Repeat sales from the existing operators, yes. airBaltic just did order more, SWISS / Lufthansa? It is very possible, KAL? We will give them the time to appreciate it.
What about CSeries orders from new client… Don't hold on your breath.
Two CSeries VVIP versions is another milestone. Deep pocket recognizing the value of having a "personal" CSeries… it means a lot to me. Rumours have it that these two would be a 5 zones business jets.
Since we're talking about Business Jets, take a look at the new Bombardier Global 7000. Slick! The interior is better than the full size mock-up I visited in Farnborough, that flexible wing will provide an amazing level of comfort, soft ride! Did you know the air cabin pressure is higher at top altitude compared with a Gulfstream or a Boeing 737 Business Jet or other aircraft? Meaning? The higher the cabin pressure, the more oxygen you get, the less tired you get, the more awake you are, the flight does not appear as long… this applies to everyone in the aircraft! When will I fly on a Global 7000 at 51000 feet close to the speed of sound? Amazing aircraft!
It will be hard for Bombardier to archive 22 CSeries deliveries in 2017 as pointed out Normand Hamel in this article on Fliegerfaust...
2 - Why airBaltic CSeries fleet was "grounded"
Two days ago airBaltic was asked by Pratt and Whitney to keep its entire CSeries fleet "grounded" a few hours for an inspection of a part external to the engines. You heard it first on Fliegerfaust once more, this was related to the fuel filters "grounding"… yes, "grounded" the fleet to check on fuel filter "ground"… ok it's Friday! But true... Consequence? No harm, all done, the fleet is back in the air. Nothing to do with the quality of the fuel.
3- How will Delta get its CSeries
Delta. You read what I think of this dishonourable, shameful, disgraceful, scandalous, outrageous, despicable complaint made by Boeing in regard to the sale of Bombardier 75 CSeries to Delta in the USA.
Two things you must know about what Delta Bastian CEO said in two days ago
"We will not pay those tariffs, that is very clear. We intend to take the aircraft. I can't tell you how it's eventually going to work out"
From what I've heard Bombardier CEO Bellemare saying, "a plan is in the work"… Add this with what Delta CEO Bastian said. But how? Well... Do Delta owns a company in Europe? In Mexico? No idea… but I know that when there's a will there's a way… until Boeing realize how much they are actually really losing.
