(FLIEGERFAUST NOTE: This is the city of Mirabel in Quebec, not Montreal as mentioned in this article. The airport is YMX, not YUL.)
Air Austral's very first Airbus A220 has been spotted outside the paintshop with its paintwork all complete. Along with a beautifully adorned body and azure blue engine surrounds, the aircraft's tail is something very special. Air Austral plans to launch its first flights with the aircraft in late February.
Air Austral's first Airbus A220 has rolled out of the paintshop in Montreal this week with a gleaming coat of fresh paint. The aircraft is, as most are, mainly white, but with a beautifully applied Air Austral logo, complemented by a blue engine surround.
But the real eye-catcher here is that stunning tail.,

A strange phenomenon was observed at Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport. 49 Chinese passengers, in transit to Shanghai, were tested positive for the coronavirus this Sunday.
They are currently isolated in a hotel, but these concordant tests lead to questions as these passengers did not come from the same country and were simply waiting for a joint connection to reach China.
17 of them came from Lima, Peru, and had arrived in Paris on an Air France flight. The others came straight from Bogota (Colombia), Istanbul (Turkey), Panama and Mauritius.
They had...

The production of the Antonov-74 transport aircraft could resume in order to supply Ukraine's armed forces, the country's government announced on January 16, 2021.
The Antonov An-74 made its first flight in 1979. It initially had the designation An-72A "Arctic", as it was an upgrade of the An-72 test aircraft for use in the Arctic and Antarctica regions, thanks to the addition of reinforced landing gears. It is capable of flying 4,600 km at a speed of 560 km per hour.
The aircraft is built around the so-called Coandā effect by mounting the turbofans on the top of the wings to provide high-speed air even at low flying speeds. Boeing's experimental YC-14 used the same principle.
The peculiar position of...

Don't want to fly on the Boeing 737 MAX? Air Canada, which will resume MAX operations on 1 February, says guests won't have to fly the type.

The carrier has implemented flexible change and cancellation policies for customers seeking to avoid the 737 MAX when it reinstates MAX flights between Toronto and Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
While Air Canada says it is "fully confident in the return of the Boeing 737 MAX", it understands that certain customers may prefer alternative travel options. It is offering guests the ability to change their MAX flight to an alternative Air Canada flight at no extra charge – within the same cabin – up to seven days before or after the original date of flight.
"You can also choose to change your origin and/or destination to an alternate origin/destination within 200 miles," says the airline in its guidance to travelers.
Additionally, guests have the option to choose an alternate itinerary with no change fee (though a difference in fare would apply) or to cancel their flight without penalty and convert...

January 19, 2021 - by BBC for www.bbc.com
A man too afraid to fly due to the pandemic lived undetected in a secure area of Chicago's international airport for three months, US prosecutors say.
Aditya Singh, 36, was arrested on Saturday after airline staff asked him to produce his identification.
He pointed to a badge, but it allegedly belonged to an operations manager who reported it missing in October.
Police say Mr Singh arrived on a flight from Los Angeles to O'Hare International Airport on 19 October.
He reportedly found the staff badge in the airport and was "scared to go home due to Covid", Assistant State Attorney Kathleen Hagerty said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
He managed to live on...

January 18, 2021 - by Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) for www.businesswire.com
VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The union representing 9,000 flight attendants at Air Canada says the airline is pocketing federal wage supports to pad their bottom line, and leaving thousands of its employees behind.
Air Canada announced an additional 1,400 layoffs on January 13, including 700 active flight attendants at Air Canada Mainline and a further 100 at Air Canada Rouge who are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), on top of thousands of others who have been laid off since the pandemic rocked the industry in March 2020.
Despite months of contending with the airline that all members laid off should receive the weekly Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) – which is the stated purpose of the CEWS – Air Canada contends that only those still on active duty, who represent a fraction of the company's actual workforce, will be used to access this subsidy.
Air Canada is the only major airline in Canada that is denying...
