Air Canada announced today that it has entered into a series of debt and equity financing agreements with the Government of Canada, which will allow Air Canada to access up to $5.879 billion in liquidity through the Large Employer Emergency Financing Facility (LEEFF) program.
"Air Canada entered the pandemic more than a year ago with one of the global airline industry's strongest balance sheets relative to its size. We have since raised an additional $6.8 billion in liquidity from our own resources to sustain us through the pandemic, as air traffic ground to a virtual halt in Canada and internationally," said Michael Rousseau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada.
"The additional liquidity program we are announcing today achieves several aligned objectives as it provides a significant layer of insurance for Air Canada, it enables us to better resolve customer refunds of non-refundable tickets, maintain our workforce and re-enter regional markets. Most importantly, this program provides additional liquidity, if required, to rebuild our business to the benefit of all stakeholders and to remain a significant contributor to the Canadian economy through its recovery and for the long term.
"As vaccine deployments ramp up, we continue to work with the Government of Canada on the evolution of safe and science-based test and quarantine relief measures with a view to safely restarting our sector. We know that Canadians are looking forward to re-connecting with friends and family and taking those long-awaited vacations and business trips and we will be ready to safely connect Canadians within Canada and Canada to the world," said Mr. Rousseau.
The financial package provides for fully repayable loans that Air Canada would only draw down as required, as well as an equity investment, and is comprised of:
As part of the financial package, Air Canada has agreed to a number of commitments related to customer refunds, service to regional communities, restrictions on the use of the funds provided, employment and capital expenditures. These include:
In connection with the Government's equity investment, Air Canada has agreed to provide customary registration rights. The Air Canada shares and warrants issued to the Government are subject to certain transfer restrictions as well as an exercise cap which limits the Government's aggregate voting rights from the shares acquired pursuant to this investment (including upon any exercise of the warrants) to 19.99%.

Leaked footage has revealed suspicious behaviour of unidentified flying objects hovering in air space above navy warships.
Alarming video and photos were captured by navy personnel off the coast of California, in the United States, and leaked to filmmaker Jeremy Corbell.
The suspicious activity had been gathered by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) Task Force, with Mr Corbell telling the New York Post he attained the information from a Pentagon intelligence briefing.
The US Navy photographed and filmed “pyramid" shaped UFOs and “spherical" advanced transmedium vehicles; here is that footage.

Airbus has been qualified by the Government of Canada as a bidder for the Strategic Tanker Transport Capability (STTC) project, a procurement process launched to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Airbus A310MRTT (CC-150 Polaris) multirole tanker fleet.
The invitation to qualify (ITQ), released at the beginning of 2021, has identified Airbus' A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft as capable of meeting the project's requirements which now moves to the next stage of the call for tender. A draft request for proposal (RFP) is expected in Q3 2021.
The STTC program looks to replace the RCAF CC-150 Polaris tanker fleet with a multirole aircraft capable of conducting a wide range of missions including NATO and NORAD operations, ranging from air-to-air refueling to strategic G overnment of Canada transport and aeromedical evacuation.
Simon Jacques, President of Airbus Defence and Space Canada, said: "The A330 MRTT is the only new generation, combat- proven, multirole tanker available. It is certified to operate with the majority of western receivers, including Canada's current fighters, transport and mission aircraft. With more than 250,000 flight hours in service with 13 nations, including key NATO allies and Five Eyes partners such as Australia and the United Kingdom."
Active in several Canadian provinces, Airbus has approximately 3,800 employees across the countryand sustains more than 23,000 indirect jobs in the aeronautics sector. Airbus works with over 665 suppliers in nine provinces, sourcing $1.8 billion CAD from Canadian companies.
All Airbus divisions are present in Canada with commercial aircraft in Mirabel, QC, helicopters in Fort Erie, ON and Defense and Space in Ottawa, ON. Airbus 100% owned subsidiaries, Stelia Aerospace and NAVBLUE also have installations in the country. In addition Air Pro, a joint-venture between Airbus and PAL Aerospace, located in Ottawa, ON, provides in-service support to the FWSAR programme in Canada (Airbus C295 aircraft to RCAF).

Fliegerfaust Note: This is related to an exclusive article already published on Fliegerfaust in 2018: Airbus Investing - Increasing A220 Production - Thank You Airbus!
Airbus is working to repurpose an area of the former Bombardier Mirabel factory that was left fallow after the Canadian planemaker ended CRJ production. The 100,000 square feet will become a pre-assembly plant for the A220 line of aircraft, feeding partially completed fuselages to both Mirabel and Mobile, Alabama. The facility is due to come into operation in 2022.
Despite all the challenges facing the aviation industry right now, Airbus is showing plenty of confidence in its Mirabel production plant. The facility, which produces the...

an interview yesterday, Air France CEO Anna Rigail confirmed that the airline remains on track to receive its first A220 in September. Aside from just modernizing the fleet, the A220 offers a host of efficiency and environmental benefits for the airline, a new top priority globally. Here's why the A220 will be a big win for Air France.
Air France has 60 Airbus A220-300s on order to replace its existing short- and medium-haul fleets. This means the aircraft will be deployed on key domestic and European routes primarily.
However, the A220's long range means that Air France could...
