April 1, 2021 - by Airbus (voir version en Français plus bas)

Airbus has been qualified by the Government of Canada as a bidder for the Strategic Tanker Transport Capability (STTC) project, a procurement process launched to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Airbus A310MRTT (CC-150 Polaris) multirole tanker fleet.

The invitation to qualify (ITQ), released at the beginning of 2021, has identified Airbus' A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft as capable of meeting the project's requirements which now moves to the next stage of the call for tender. A draft request for proposal (RFP) is expected in Q3 2021.

The STTC program looks to replace the RCAF CC-150 Polaris tanker fleet with a multirole aircraft capable of conducting a wide range of missions including NATO and NORAD operations, ranging from air-to-air refueling to strategic G overnment of Canada transport and aeromedical evacuation.

Simon Jacques, President of Airbus Defence and Space Canada, said: "The A330 MRTT is the only new generation, combat- proven, multirole tanker available. It is certified to operate with the majority of western receivers, including Canada's current fighters, transport and mission aircraft. With more than 250,000 flight hours in service with 13 nations, including key NATO allies and Five Eyes partners such as Australia and the United Kingdom."

Active in several Canadian provinces, Airbus has approximately 3,800 employees across the countryand sustains more than 23,000 indirect jobs in the aeronautics sector. Airbus works with over 665 suppliers in nine provinces, sourcing $1.8 billion CAD from Canadian companies.

All Airbus divisions are present in Canada with commercial aircraft in Mirabel, QC, helicopters in Fort Erie, ON and Defense and Space in Ottawa, ON. Airbus 100% owned subsidiaries, Stelia Aerospace and NAVBLUE also have installations in the country. In addition Air Pro, a joint-venture between Airbus and PAL Aerospace, located in Ottawa, ON, provides in-service support to the FWSAR programme in Canada (Airbus C295 aircraft to RCAF).

Fliegerfaust Note: This is related to an exclusive article already published on Fliegerfaust in 2018: Airbus Investing - Increasing A220 Production - Thank You Airbus!

Airbus is working to repurpose an area of the former Bombardier Mirabel factory that was left fallow after the Canadian planemaker ended CRJ production. The 100,000 square feet will become a pre-assembly plant for the A220 line of aircraft, feeding partially completed fuselages to both Mirabel and Mobile, Alabama. The facility is due to come into operation in 2022.

Despite all the challenges facing the aviation industry right now, Airbus is showing plenty of confidence in its Mirabel production plant. The facility, which produces the...

The disturbing series of events during the summer of 2019 resulted in an investigation that made its way to the highest echelons of the Navy

In July of 2019, a truly bizarre series of events unfolded around California's Channel Islands.

Over a number of days, groups of unidentified aircraft, which the U.S. Navy simply refers to as 'drones' or 'UAVs,' pursued that service's vessels, prompting a high-level investigation...

Why The Airbus A220 Will Be A Big Win For Air France

Click Like to Follow Fliegerfaust Facebook page to get the News ASAP / Share to share this post now.

March 11, 2021 - by Pranjal Pande for www.simpleflying.com

an interview yesterday, Air France CEO Anna Rigail confirmed that the airline remains on track to receive its first A220 in September. Aside from just modernizing the fleet, the A220 offers a host of efficiency and environmental benefits for the airline, a new top priority globally. Here's why the A220 will be a big win for Air France.

Air France has 60 Airbus A220-300s on order to replace its existing short- and medium-haul fleets. This means the aircraft will be deployed on key domestic and European routes primarily.

However, the A220's long range means that Air France could...

March 10, 2021 by Eric M. Johnson for www.reuters.com

Boeing Co is close to a deal to sell dozens of its 737 MAX 7 jets to Southwest Airlines Co, in potentially the company's largest 737 MAX order since the aircraft's safety ban was lifted, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

The proposed deal, which one of the sources said could potentially involve 130 firm orders plus roughly 170 options, follows intense competition between the smallest member of Boeing's MAX family and the A220 from Airbus SE.

March 8, 2021 - by Editor from www.canadianaviator.com

In the first AD, TC required a one-time visual inspection of the stick but the second AD said that further investigation revealed that was "not adequate."

Transport Canada has temporarily banned single-pilot operations from the right seat in the Bell 505 helicopter after a collective stick failed during a preflight check earlier this year. The measure was included in an emergency AD.

The new AD requires fluorescent penetrant inspection before next flight and every 25 hours after that. In response to the AD, Bell has...

March 5, 2021 - by Guy Norris and Steve Trimble for www.aviationweek.com

As reusable hypersonic propulsion rises up the list of U.S. Defense Department priorities, Pratt & Whitney now confirms it is working on a secretive development program called Metacomet aimed at solving the problem of fielding high-speed, reusable propulsion systems at low cost.

Already at least two years old, Metacomet—a name linked to a 17th century Wampanoag chief, the namesake of a ridge overlooking a Pratt & Whitney research facility in Connecticut—marks the company's return to Mach 3-plus propulsion nearly a decade after selling its scramjet pioneer Rocketdyne arm to the parent company of Aerojet in 2012.

My name is Normand Hamel. After a 35 year career in aviation I retired in 2009 to better concentrate on my favourite activities: reading and writing. If you wonder what Run-up Pad means it refers to this special section of a run-up area on an airport that can be heated up in cold temperatures to prevent an aircraft from slipping forward when power is applied to test the engines. It also refers symbolically to the yellow pad I am using to write these articles for which I intend to bring our readers to contribution to test my ideas, like one would test an engine to make sure it works properly.
