A final decision on the future of the CRJ program could come as early as this week, marking a major piece in the strategic puzzle for the Japanese entrant and closing the gap with Embraer to supporting its fleet globally. With only one buyer for what Bombardier was selling and only one seller for what Mitsubishi needed, the parties were going to figure it out.
Designing, testing, certifying and mass-producing an airliner is excruciatingly difficult — not to mention expensive. But that's only the first step. Handing over an aircraft for someone else with which to make money with reliable air service is potentially even more challenging...
