The chopper falls for the second time in a few months at the engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC), which will eliminate approximately 250 jobs in its Quebec factories as the COVID-19 pandemic, which shakes the airline industry, continues to '' have repercussions on its order book.
In an email Wednesday, a spokesperson, Catherine Cunningham, said the company had "had to take new measures to promote the match between the workforce and current and future business demand."
In May, the company, which has some 2,400 unionized workers in the province and is very present in (the city of) Longueuil, in the southern (east) suburbs of Montreal, as well as in Mirabel, in the Laurentians, had cut 350 positions.
Layoffs had been avoided thanks to some 230 voluntary departures and early retirements.
